The mountains- a contrast in climate

Temperatures around freezing point, morning dew, fog and clouds- who would have expected that on a tropical island? But that is only another side of Sri Lanka. When you take the winding road up to the mountains you will enter a totally different landscape with steep hills covered with tea plantations.

Through the fog to Worlds End

Very interesting are the Horton Plains, a plateau with the last tropical high and cloud forests. Venturous people enjoy the spectacular panoramic view at the border of Worlds End.

Nuwara Eliya - The town above the clouds

Nowhere else in Sri Lanka the British colonial time seems to be more alive than in Nuwara Eliya. Until the present day it is very “hip” to spend the hot monsoon months in the cool mountain air.
